Let's Go 2008 Europe (Let's Go Europe)
|
Customer ReviewsGOOD BUDGET TRAVEL COMPANIONThis travel guide is a wonderful tool if you are a budget traveler and better if you are traveling as a backpacker. I have used let's go 2 times. Once, in 2000, when I backpacked through Europe for two months and this year when I traveled with my girlfriend through Europe as a budget traveler, not backpacking, and I have to say that in both cases it was awesome. It gives you great useful information. Good book, but could be better In general it is incredible and you won't feel right traveling without it but a few cons that I found are the following: - no information on train schedules - very few information on budget hotels (focuses more on hostels) - maps could be a lot better - the suggested itineraries are not very great (in my opinion, I never follow these. I basically do my own research online) If you are a person that is only traveling to only a few countries in europe, such as france, england, italy, I would recommend getting the let's go western europe or even the let's go for the individual country your are visiting because it gives you even more information. If you are planning to travel throughout europe I would recommend the normal let's go europe book. Overall, I would really recommend this book over lonely planet or any other travel guide if you are a backpacker. If you are traveling on a budget I would recommend this, but keep in mind that this is targeted to a very low budget traveler and in the accomodations section, it will provide mostly cheap (but nice) hostels. Overall, I greatly appreciated the helpful cultural hints, the maps of major cities, and the recommendations on where to eat. The one thing I think this book is lacking is a more comprehensive listing of possible hotels/hostels. The large portion of their recommended housing requires a reservation at least two months in advance, which limited my options and forced me to use internet sites to locate peer-reviewed housing. Excellent resources I love this book.... Lots of places to visit and excellent tips. Can't wait to actually use this book in Europe. So far so good but I have yet to use in the field A lot of insight and tips on how to move around on a budget. I have yet to use it in the field though. Information you won't find elsewhere There's a lot of details on the important things you need to know when traveling. Examples include: what documents you will need in each country, transportation options and their costs, important phone #'s and some detailed maps of the larger cities. It's a good book for people who already know where they are going to but just want more information about it. There are no pictures, just black and white maps. 5 reviews found. Displaying 1-5.
